The Creative and Performing Arts Academy (CAPA) is designed for students who have a passion for the arts and wish to enrich their high school experience with authentic, hands-on learning in the visual or performing arts pathway. These pathway classes develop those real-world skills highly prized by universities and employers: self-discipline, teamwork, and a strong work ethic, preparing them for a possible career in the arts. CAPA staff fosters their students’ ambitious appetite for the arts with a rigorous, engaging, project-based curriculum in addition to Advanced Placement courses. In CAPA classes, students will focus on creative problem solving and critical thinking skills that are intrinsic to the arts and transferable across the curriculum.
In CAPA, students will take Digital Imaging, Advanced Digital Media, and Film Making as electives beginning in their sophomore year. Students are grouped together in their English and Social Science classes as well to promote continuity and togetherness. CAPA students also can choose from Band classes, art, ceramics, piano, and guitar.
